| Cleaning
and Maintenance
Regular
maintenance of your Parker and Farr upholstery will help enormously
in retaining its appearance and extending its serviceable
life. Dust, dirt and grit should be removed frequently. Whilst
dust is immediately noticeable on wooden furniture, this is
not generally the case with upholstery. It is important therefore
to gently vacuum or clean with a soft brush on a regular basis
to prevent surface dirt becoming ingrained. Upholstery fabrics
must not be washed. Recognised cleaning companies will attend
your home to clean upholstery that has acquired general soiling
over the years but do resist the temptation to clean only
part of the furniture to avoid shading and an uneven appearance.
Accidents
Accidents
can happen, such as spills or dropped food. When this occurs,
prompt action is required to prevent the liquid seeping in
to the fabric. White kitchen roll or an absorbent soft white
cloth can help to soak up any excess fluid, whilst thicker
and more solid substances should be carefully removed using
a blunt knife. Oily substances can be problematic and whilst
warm clear soapy water may do the trick in most cases, it
may be necessary to use a branded stain remover that is relevant
to the type of stain.Try to test any cleaning method on an
unexposed part of the fabric to gain reaction to the fabric.
If in doubt, do seek professional help. |

General
wear and tear
Be mindful of some of the causes of damage to upholstery fabrics,
especially silk and fine viscose. Rings, buckles, shoes, studs,
toys and, of
course, pets can easily snag yarns and create ”pulls”
that can weaken fabric.
Cushions should be plumped up daily to allow the interiors
to breathe.
Turning
and interchanging cushions will prolong the life of your furniture
and reduce the effect of creasing, wear and fading. Also,
be mindful of excessive heat and avoid direct sunlight which
can quickly fade and
weaken the structure of textiles.Avoid sitting on arms as
this can add excessive pressure on seams and cause distortion
to the shape. Arms
are also more vulnerable to wear caused by nervous or sweaty
hands – especially whist watching TV!
At Parker and Farr we have been manufacturing furniture to
exacting standards for 50 years and have every confidence
in the quality of our
products. However, as with fine quality clothes, it is important
to take care to retain the good looks of your upholstery,
to deal promptly and
effectively if accidents happen, and most importantly to relax
and enjoy many years of comfortable service.
